1. About PeerAssure
This Privacy Policy explains how PeerAssure ("PeerAssure", "we", "us" or "our") handles personal information in connection with our website and our professional due-diligence services.
PeerAssure is operated as a sole trader business in the United Kingdom.
For the purposes of applicable UK data-protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, PeerAssure may act as a data controller in relation to personal information that we process.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle personal information, please contact us at:
2. Information we collect through our website
At present, PeerAssure does not operate user registration, newsletter subscriptions, online purchasing or other forms on our website that require visitors to submit personal information.
Our website may nevertheless involve limited technical information being processed by our website hosting or technology providers, such as IP address, browser type, device information and technical information required to operate, secure and maintain the website.
Where cookies or similar technologies are used, these will be handled in accordance with applicable UK requirements.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information from visitors to our website.
3. Information processed as part of PeerAssure assessments
Our professional service involves conducting independent due diligence and assessment of individuals, primarily candidates being considered for senior scientific or professional positions.
Where a client asks us to conduct an assessment, we may process information relating to the individual being assessed, including:
name;
CV and professional history;
employment history;
educational and professional qualifications;
publications and scientific contributions;
professional appointments and affiliations;
awards, grants and other professional achievements;
information concerning professional activities available from legitimate public sources;
evidence and sources identified during our research; and
the resulting PeerAssure assessment and report.
We aim to collect and process only information that is relevant and reasonably necessary for the particular assessment.
We do not intentionally seek personal information such as home addresses, personal telephone numbers, financial information or information concerning an individual's private life where that information is not relevant to the professional assessment.
4. Information obtained from public sources
As part of our due-diligence methodology, PeerAssure may research information that is publicly accessible through professional, scientific, academic, organisational and other legitimate sources.
Public availability does not, by itself, mean that information can be used without consideration of data-protection requirements.
We therefore seek to use information that is relevant, proportionate and reasonably reliable in relation to the professional assessment being undertaken.
Our research is focused on professional and scientific matters relevant to the assessment.
5. How we use personal information
We use personal information primarily to:
conduct professional and scientific due diligence;
verify or assess relevant professional claims and achievements;
identify and evaluate relevant supporting evidence;
prepare PeerAssure assessment reports;
obtain independent subject-matter review where appropriate;
communicate with our clients about an assessment; and
maintain appropriate records relating to our services.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use candidate information for unrelated marketing purposes.
6. Artificial intelligence
PeerAssure may use artificial-intelligence tools to assist with aspects of our research and assessment process.
For example, AI may assist us in:
reviewing and organising information;
identifying potentially relevant publicly available sources;
analysing information contained within reports;
assisting with research and evidence gathering; and
supporting the preparation of an assessment.
AI is used as an assistive tool and does not independently determine the final PeerAssure assessment.
Human review and professional judgement remain part of the assessment process.
PeerAssure does not intend to make solely automated decisions about an individual that produce legal effects or similarly significant effects.
7. Independent reviewers
PeerAssure may use appropriately qualified independent subject-matter reviewers as part of its assessment methodology.
Where an independent reviewer is used, relevant information concerning the assessment may be provided to that reviewer where necessary for them to conduct their review.
Reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality and handle information securely.
Our independent reviewers are based in the United Kingdom.
8. Legal basis for processing
We will process personal information only where we have an appropriate lawful basis under applicable data-protection legislation.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include processing that is necessary for the performance of a contract or steps taken before entering into a contract, or processing that is necessary for our legitimate interests where those interests are not overridden by the rights and freedoms of the individual.
Where special-category personal data or criminal-offence data is involved, additional legal requirements apply. PeerAssure will only process such information where the applicable requirements are satisfied.
9. Data retention
We normally retain information relating to a PeerAssure assessment for one year following completion of the assessment.
This may include the information supplied to us, relevant research material, supporting evidence and the completed assessment report.
After the applicable retention period, information will be securely deleted unless we have a legitimate or legal reason to retain it for longer, such as establishing, exercising or defending legal claims or complying with a legal obligation.
10. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
Access to candidate information is limited to people who need the information to provide the PeerAssure service.
However, no electronic storage system or transmission of information over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
11. Sharing personal information
We may share relevant personal information where necessary to provide our services.
This may include sharing information with:
independent subject-matter reviewers;
technology and service providers supporting our assessment process;
professional advisers where necessary; and
authorities or other parties where required by law
We will not sell personal information to third parties.
All independent reviewers engaged by PeerAssure are based in the United Kingdom.
12. Your data-protection rights
Under applicable UK data-protection legislation, individuals may have rights including:
the right to be informed about how their personal information is used;
the right to access personal information we hold about them;
the right to request correction of inaccurate information;

rights relating to automated decision-making and profiling
These rights are subject to certain legal conditions and exemptions and therefore may not apply in every circumstance.
If you wish to exercise a right or ask us about the personal information we hold, please contact:
13. Information received from third parties
PeerAssure may receive information about an individual from a recruitment firm, employer, client or other third party rather than directly from that individual.
Where this occurs, we will handle the information in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements, including applicable transparency obligations and exemptions.

Our website may contain links to third-party websites.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices, security or content of third-party websites. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of those websites when you visit them.
